Our ESC volunteer Ahmad in Ostrava, Czech Republic

I am Ahmad Abu Romman, a 26-year-old Jordanian, currently taking part in a 10-month volunteering experience in the city of Ostrava, Czech Republic, within the Intervia project, implemented by Slezská diakonie and funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program.

During this experience, I work with people with disabilities, a field that has deeply influenced my personal and professional development. My role includes supporting the design and implementation of activities adapted to the needs of students with disabilities, as well as helping to provide a safe and supportive environment for children.
I also contribute to carrying out daily activity schedules, supporting children during activities, and creating spaces where they can feel safe and confident. In addition, part of my role involves creating videos and digital content for social media to document activities and share the human message of the project with a wider community.
One of the aspects closest to my heart in this experience is sharing Jordanian culture with the local community in the Czech Republic, and building bridges between cultures through daily interaction and shared activities.

Throughout this journey, I am developing many skills, such as activity design, communication skills, content creation, and working with people with severe disabilities. I am motivated to transfer these experiences and skills in the future to my local community in Jordan, in order to create a wider positive impact.
This experience has strengthened my belief that giving part of our time and effort to support others, without expecting anything in return, is a meaningful choice that shapes who we are, helps us grow, and leaves a quiet but lasting impact on both ourselves and the people around us.
